# Acceptable Use Policy

**Effective Date:** March 1, 2026
This policy is an integral part of our [Terms of Service](/terms/) and is legally binding on all Users.

![Illustrating Acceptable Use Policy](index.avif)

> VerixID is built on trust. The integrity of our ecosystem relies on responsible usage by every participant. This document defines the boundaries of acceptable use.

---

### 1. Purpose of This Policy

This Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) complements the VerixID Terms of Service by outlining specific permitted and prohibited activities on the System. Violations of this AUP may result in immediate suspension or termination of access.

---

### 2. Permitted Use

The System is engineered to:

* 2.1 Register and verify the authenticity of legitimate digital files
* 2.2 Establish cryptographic proof of existence for documents at a specific point in time
* 2.3 Safeguard copyrighted works, contracts, digital assets, and critical records
* 2.4 Support auditing, compliance, and legal evidentiary requirements in legitimate business operations
* 2.5 Enable integration with business systems via official APIs

---

### 3. System Scope & Limitations

Before using the System, please review what VerixID can and cannot technically prove:

#### 3.1 What VerixID Can Prove:
* **a. Existence:** An identical file **existed** at the recorded timestamp.
* **b. Integrity:** The file **remains unaltered** since its initial registration.
* **c. Provenance:** The original registrant holds the Ownership Key as proof of record ownership.

#### 3.2 What VerixID Cannot Prove:
* **a.** The identity, authority, or honesty of the registrant.
* **b.** The truthfulness, legality, or validity of the file's contents.
* **c.** Copyright ownership or intellectual property rights.
* **d.** The intent, motive, or good faith of any party involved.
* **e.** That the registrant is the lawful owner of the registered file.

#### 3.3 System Boundaries
* **a. Exact Match Requirements:** VerixID operates at a mathematical level—every file produces a unique cryptographic fingerprint that matches only an exact, bit-for-bit duplicate. Re-compressing, re-encoding, or converting formats will alter the fingerprint, even if the visible content appears identical. This service is designed for native digital assets, not physical document scans or reproductions.
* **b. Ledger Immutability:** Hash values of any content—including unlawful content—can technically be registered to the ledger because the system does not inspect file contents. However, registering illegal content violates this AUP and may trigger legal action. **The ledger is immutable—records cannot be deleted or modified even if found in violation.** This is an architectural guarantee, not a flaw.
* **c. Monitoring:** VerixID assumes no obligation to actively monitor, filter, or screen User activities or registered records.

---

### 4. Prohibited Uses

Prohibited activities include, but are not limited to, the following:

#### 4.1 Illegal Content
You may not register cryptographic fingerprints of files that contain or constitute:
* **a.** Unlawful material under any applicable jurisdiction
* **b.** Content that infringes on third-party copyrights, trademarks, or intellectual property rights
* **c.** Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM)
* **d.** Content promoting violence, terrorism, or hate speech
* **e.** Personal data of third parties gathered or registered without lawful authorization

#### 4.2 System Abuse
* **a.** Registering files belonging to third parties without authorization to fake ownership claims
* **b.** Misrepresenting VerixID records to deceive, defraud, or mislead others
* **c.** Presenting VerixID records as proof beyond their technical capabilities
* **d.** Attempting to breach, tamper with, or compromise the integrity of the ledger
* **e.** Utilizing the System for money laundering or illicit financial activities

#### 4.3 Technical Misuse
* **a.** Automated high-volume traffic (flooding, rate abuse, or DDoS attacks) disrupting services
* **b.** Exploiting vulnerabilities outside responsible disclosure protocols
* **c.** Deploying automated scripts that exceed defined rate limits
* **d.** Reverse engineering the VerixID architecture for malicious purposes
* **e.** Using the platform as a proxy or relay for unauthorized external activities

#### 4.4 Enforcement Standard
* **a.** Policy violations are assessed based on actual or potential impact, regardless of user intent.
* **b.** VerixID reserves the right to enforce this policy based on standards active at the time of evaluation.
* **c.** Enforcement actions are calibrated according to severity, frequency, and impact.

---

### 5. API Usage Guidelines

API consumers must strictly adhere to the following:

* 5.1 Maintain strict confidentiality of API keys and prevent unauthorized access.
* 5.2 Report suspected API key compromises or leaks immediately.
* 5.3 Respect and abide by defined rate limits.
* 5.4 Refrain from using the API to build competing products without prior written consent.
* 5.5 Ensure end-users using products powered by VerixID APIs comply with this policy.

---

### 6. Consequences of Violation

VerixID reserves the right to take any of the following actions unilaterally and without prior notice:

* 6.1 Issue formal warnings or temporary access restrictions.
* 6.2 Permanently suspend or terminate accounts or API keys.
* 6.3 Execute automated IP blocks and firewall bans.
* 6.4 Report violations to relevant law enforcement or regulatory authorities.
* 6.5 Fully cooperate with law enforcement agencies during legal investigations.

*Note: Account termination or access revocation will not remove existing records from the ledger, as the ledger remains immutable.*

---

### 7. Reporting Violations

If you discover a violation of this AUP or identify a security vulnerability in our platform, please report it immediately via our [Contact page](/contact/).

For security disclosures, please follow our responsible disclosure instructions on the [Contact page](/contact/).

---

### 8. Policy Updates

We may update this AUP periodically to reflect system evolution and emerging threat models. The latest version will always be published on this page with an updated effective date.
